Sweet and Saltines

Jen is the baker of the family.....I'm more the hors d'oeurvre-er. ( I spelled that right on the first try!) She makes this great saltine-toffee treat and everyone always asks her for the recipe.  There are many variations of this tasty snack but here is hers...

She got it from Trisha Yearwood herself...

40 saltine crackers

  1 cup (2 sticks) butter

     1 cup light brown sugar

8 oz. chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Line cookie sheet (jelly roll pan) with foil.

In medium saucepan melt butter and brown sugar together and bring to a boil. Boil for about 5 min.

Remove from heat and pour over crackers-covering evenly. Put the pan in oven and watch closely.  Bake for 4-5 min, or just until bubbly. Remove the pan from oven and pour the chocolate chips over the crackers. When the chips melt a bit spread them over the crackers with a knife. Transfer the pan to the freezer for about 20 minutes, or until completely cold.  They will form one big sheet.  Break up into pieces.  Store in airtight container.

Graham crackers can be used instead, but it is really sweet that way.  I've also used Keebler butter crackers (due to the fact that I thought I had saltines cuz my kids put the box back in the pantry empty...) and it was great, too.

Those that know us know that we are fans of the ol' jeans and white (or heather grey) T-shirt.  Any accessory that spruces up our "uniform" is a plus. Jen is much better at accessorizing than I am.  I go through her stuff when i visit, hoping she's sick of some and will hand them down to me!...We've been seeing even more great bracelets for fall...

What is it about this vantage point? I think it must just encompass all the good details of a bedroom.  Actually, i think mine looks ok in that tiny square ...no hand-me-down furniture, dog toys, alarm clocks that my husband has had since 6th grade, etc.
