 I came across this cute DIY last weekend.  It's from Beachbrights.blogspot....and I think it's so creative and fun for any age.

All you'll need_

-Walmart Boots..$25.00

-Grommets...Hobby Lobby

-Ribbon 

she cut them straight down the back...

Added the grommets. Not too difficult, really.

And laced!!!
